Although known for its peacefulness, tamburitza musicians and unique architecture, Subotica is striving to become a regional IT center.
This is also a goal of “IT Subotica 2030” project, a tool for IT companies and educational institutions from Subotica to strengthen the IT community and improve the education in Subotica. This town already has prerequisites for achieving the aforementioned ambitions. This is reflected in the existence of the IT Cluster which brings together about 20 software development companies in which approximately 500 highly-qualified experts have a salary exceeding 1000 euros.
The project is, among other things, a result of the global trend where IT experts are escaping to smaller towns, whereas big companies are moving their IT sectors to more peaceful areas, such as Subotica, which in addition to well-educated programmers, offers fantastic nature and climate.
Subotica sees its chance in Serbia’s increasing IT industry growth rate, which currently accounts for almost 6% of GDP and therefore creates more opportunities for getting a job and remaining in the country.
IT companies from Subotica give their contribution with regard to youth employment through cooperation with educational institutions and offering scholarships to hard-working students who envision their career in the IT field. Therefore, “IT Subotica 2030” wants to encourage students to demonstrate their knowledge and effort so as to ensure that they get good working conditions and acquire experience by working on big domestic and international projects.
Additionally, by improving the environmental conditions and organizing interesting social and cultural events, the project aims to make Subotica an attractive and healthy place for young people and families and counts on the town’s support in this process.
