STUDENT OF THE YEAR MILOŠ PAJIĆ: “GRADES ARE NOT JUST AN INDICATOR OF KNOWLEDGE”

Miloš Pajić

Miloš Pajić is the top student of the Grammar School "Svetozar Marković“, from the first generation of students who completed the IT program. Computer application, database management, C programming language, web programming, and object-oriented programming are just some of the subjects he studied during his four-year education.

"On a weekly basis, almost half of our classes were some kind of computer science subject. If we had 35 classes per week, then 15 classes were on computer science. This was also an excellent introduction and preparation for college because when I looked, all electrical engineering colleges covered the material of the first year entirely, and some even of the second." says Miloš.

In addition to demonstrating impressive knowledge in technical subjects, Miloš also excelled in traditional but equally important subjects such as physics and mathematics. In the first year, he won first place at the municipal and district physics competition and third prize at the national level, while in the second year, he was third at the district competition. In mathematics, he was first at the municipal and district competitions all four years, while in the first and second year of the national competition, he received second, and in the third and fourth year, the third prize.

"Even as a child, I learned to calculate with my dad, and that's how I developed some attachment to math. Over time, when I realized that it was useful and could bring me something good, then it began to interest me. Math is just practice. Of course, there can be natural talent, but it is mostly practice, and it's essential not to overdo it because it can create pressure, especially for competition. I always prepared, but I also knew when to stop because if you practice all day, you may not learn more, but you create pressure not to make a mistake in the task because you invested so much time," explains Miloš.

Between diplomas, knowledge, and grades, Miloš says it's difficult to decide what's most important because he believes they are equally significant for achieving success.

"Knowledge is valued, but unfortunately, when you want to get a scholarship or when you're enrolling in college, you need grades for all that. Grades do matter, and there are universities that you can't even get into with two fours (equivalent to a B-). But, grades aren't just an indicator of knowledge because teachers also value your work ethic, and I think students neglect that. I know from personal experience that maybe I didn't always get an A, but if, before that, I had an A, and I kept trying, that's when I earned that A in some sense," says Miloš.

Miloš Pajić is one of the 12 top students that the organization "IT Subotica 2030" awarded as part of the "Students of the Year" project. Thanks to his success in competitions, he has already enrolled in electrical engineering and computer science at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade. There, he will try to definitively choose his career path, and he sees his future in our country.
"I would like to stay in Serbia, and my goal is to use my knowledge and abilities to secure a good life for myself here, where the conditions may not be excellent yet. I don't have many complaints about Subotica, except that I think it's not currently a lively city for young people, but this development plan looks good, and we'll certainly see where I am and where Subotica is in 2030. So, I would consider Subotica because I have no reason not to come back," says Miloš.
