STUDENT OF THE YEAR DANIJELA ZVEKIĆ: “PIANO HAS WON ME”

Danijela Zvekic

Danijela Zvekić is a 1st in class student at the Music High School, where she completed the Classical Music Performer - Piano program in the Vocal-Instrumental Department, and her success is all the greater knowing that she was also the 1st in class student at the Music Elementary School.

"I think I managed to mark that title of the 1st in class student of one school in a way, precisely because I managed to be in both elementary and high school. I am very proud of that, but I know that behind it there is a lot of effort and work, years and years in which not a single week or day passed without working on it," says Danijela.

Danijela fell in love with the piano at "first hearing" when she attended a concert as a very young child. Since then, nothing else could capture her attention like the sounds produced by fingers passing over the keys of a piano, which she began playing at the age of eight.

"I felt how the person playing could convey something of their own without saying anything, and it seems that I somehow absorbed that from a young age, it attracted me and that's why I started going to Music school," reveals Danijela.

Inspired by this experience, Danijela herself strives to convey to the audience what she feels while playing at every performance. That is why she prefers composers such as Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, because she finds herself best in music that conveys happiness or sorrow, with forceful playing, virtuosity, and voice. Her skill has also been noticed by jury members, so today she has over 60 awards in her collection from competitions.

"My favorite are the State and international competitions, such as the one in Hungary, when I was in Szeged and won my first prize. I am very proud of that because it was a big competition, and later I made it to the finals in Budapest, where I won the third prize. But I don't look at competitions for awards, rather as an experience. Each new competition is a new experience, with ups and downs, and that is why it is more of an experience than a prize for me," says Danijela.

Danijela Zvekić is one of 12 first in class students awarded by the organization "IT Subotica 2030" as part of the "Students of the Year" project. Her desire is to enroll at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad or Szeged, so that one day she could be not only an excellent pianist but also everything that the piano implies.

"You start as a teacher, then that teacher is called to be a jury member, then called to be an accompanist at various competitions and events, and I hope that to be my road one day too. So, I hope that in 2030, I will see myself as a successful pianist and that I will manage to build a career. We'll see whether I'll end up abroad or in Subotica. I am attracted to both, but I grew up here, and I am somehow drawn to home. Since the city is changing and progressing year by year, I think that Subotica in 2030 will be reach its full potential", says Danijela.
