Student of the year Ana Vojnić Tunić - I love what I do

Ana Vojnic Tunic

Ana Vojnić Tunić is a student at the Medical High School, who has been studying to become a nurse-technician for the past four years. For her, being a medical worker is not a job that is done for eight hours a day, but a vocation that is lived every day and at every opportunity.

"Patience and humanity are needed, but also to love what we do. This is most visible in health care because when someone does what they don't like, you can see that in their contact with people and how they act. I think that every medical worker should help outside of their work, as much as they can. They should look at people empathetically and understand how they feel because even though their problem may not be the biggest for us, it is for them and that should be respected", says Ana.

Ana showed these qualities during her schooling, by engaging in numerous extracurricular activities.

For two years, she attended the first aid section of the Subotica Red Cross, and then she passed on what she had learned to the students of the lower grades. She also took part in preventive examinations of citizens in the city centre on World Nurses Day, held a seminar on healthy nutrition and physical activity and numerous other presentations at school, and accepted the offer to volunteer through the Red Cross of Subotica at the immunization point in the Nova Municipality. There she worked for three months with citizens who came to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

"There I made that contact with people and that's when I fell in love with medicine. Yes, it's difficult and there are all kinds of people, and not everyone understands that we just want to help them, but I'm glad that I've done it. It was a wonderful experience", says Ana.

All of this, along with good grades, made Ana stand out among her peers and decided that she would take the title of valedictorian, which she sees as the crown of her four years of schooling.

"I never aimed for that, I just aimed to be the best I can. I'm honoured and it's a nice feeling, and I feel more successful than I thought I would feel. It means more to me than I thought it would mean to me", points out Ana.

Ana Vojnić Tunić is one of the 12 valedictorian students awarded by the "IT Subotica 2030" organization as part of the "Students of the Year" project. She plans to continue her education at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, on basic academic studies in medicine and sees herself in that city in 2030 with a diploma in her hands and a specialization in anaesthesiology or paediatrics. However, she does not rule out the possibility of returning to Subotica.

"I can see Subotica in 2030 as an improved city compared to now. There is a lot of work being done in the city. What will determine whether I will be here or in Novi Sad is the specialization and what I will be offered." I would like it to be in Novi Sad. However, there is a possibility of me returning to Subotica. This is not something I rule out, but everything will depend on the specialization. I put my career first, and I will decide based on that," says Ana.
