SUBOTICA HAS TURNED INTO A TRUE IT TOWN

digital hive

Many people, including the citizens of Subotica,  don’t know that the town has recently turned into a true IT town.

The mention of Subotica usually makes us think about the northernmost town in Serbia, the town of art nouveau, Danilo Kiš, granges, wineries, Palić lake, an impressive Townhall, the second biggest European synagogue, and the like. However, many people, including the locals, don’t know that Subotica has recently become a true IT town.

The IT development means that location doesn’t play a crucial factor in doing business anymore. Subotica has used this idea and become a site from which a significant number of companies operate on both home and foreign markets. Only the IT Cluster in Subotica brings together about twenty companies from the respective field. They employ more than 1200 people (out of which 500 make up highly qualified staff). Many “traditional” companies also have an IT sector, so that the number is even bigger.

There is a variety of IT fields on offer, from programming (web development, IOS, IoT, Android, Cloud, AI, Database, Embedded, System solutions), digital marketing, telecommunications, machine programming, and engineering, through education, logistics, graphic design and branding, to developing smart solutions (smart buildings), resource management systems, video games development, online businesses and the like.

What is encouraging is the fact that a significant portion of IT staff are getting their education in Subotica. Therefore, the knowledge from the aforementioned fields can be acquired at the Faculty of Economics (tracks: Business Informatics and Business Information Systems), the Tech College of Applied Sciences, Polytechnic High School in Subotica, Technical School “Ivan Sarić” and an increasing number of private IT education centers.

To acquaint people from Subotica with the town’s IT environment, the IT Cluster from Subotica shot a video that enables the viewers to peek into some of these companies. The video was financed from the funds that the Cluster received from the Check IT IPA project financed by the European Union.

IT Cluster in Subotica brings together IT companies from Subotica and the surrounding area and aims to improve the quality of life in the town and enhance the relationship between companies in Subotica, the local self-government, and members of the Cluster. The intention behind the activities of the Cluster is to help the young people acquire IT knowledge and to create conditions that would make them stay in in the town and ensure their prosperity.
